Summary:

As part of “Operation Return to Sender” 154 suspected “criminal aliens, fugitive aliens, and other immigration status violators” have been arrested in various cities throughout Ohio. According to ICE officials Cincinnati police played a significant role in these arrests. Among the arrested were 16 with criminal records ranging from child molestation to attempted murder. One from Honduras was a member of MS-13. As part of Operation Return to Sender, approximately 2,100 criminal aliens have been arrested nationwide.

Analysis:

Operation Return to Sender, which began on May 26th 2006, continues to capture criminal aliens. The last press release from DHS reported that 2,179 aliens had been detained. This was on June 14th. At that point, it was reported that 367 of the 2,179 were members or associates of violent street gangs including MS-13. Since then there have been additional arrests in Oklahoma, which netted 125, and Ohio, which netted 154. This deportation strategy will likely only be as effective, as the security on our borders as many of these “criminal aliens” have been deported before.
