Summary:
A triple stabbing occurred last Saturday July 23rd in an apartment complex on 1400 Kanawha Street, Langley Park, Maryland. At approximately 7 P.M. several men tried to force their way into a party that was being held in the apartment, when the fight occurred resulting in three men being stabbed. All three victims are expected to survive. The stabbings are believed to be gang related and follow a triple shooting on June 30th that occurred on 1900 Erie St. in Adelphi, Maryland, which is very nearby. Additionally, last summer two men were slain as they slept in a parking lot on New Hampshire Avenue less than a half mile from where the most recent stabbings occurred. Meanwhile residents are terrified, with many afraid to venture outside after dark, and police seem unable to curtail the violence. There has been only one arrest and no convictions in any of these crimes.
Analysis:
The level of violence in this area seems to be increasing dramatically. The inability of police to solve these murders will likely feed the fear of residents, and further deter potential informants from coming forward for fear of reprisals. This is a cycle that ends in a completely gang dominated neighborhood. Langley Park is known for it’s MS-13 presence, and there is a click that is known to be centered there. They are known as the “Langley Park Salvatruchos” (LPS). Although, because nobody is talking to police and there are no suspects, none of these crimes can be tied definitively to this click. Other clicks that operate in this area are the "Sailors Locos Salvatruchos Westside" and the "Teclas Locos Salvatruchos" Here are two links detailing the exploits of these three D.C. area clicks.
