Summary:
In Mid-July, Washington D.C. Chief of Police Charles Ramsey declared a state of emergency in response to several high profile crimes that occurred, including 14 murders. In response, The U.S. Marshals-led Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force (CARFTF) launched Operation City Heat, which targeted all violent crime warrants in the metropolitan area. A total of 290 arrests were made. Among them 3 confirmed MS-13 members were arrested. Details are still emerging on the names and locations of the MS-13 arrests. Large amounts of weapons and narcotics were also captured.
Analysis:
Full information is not given in this press release on the location of the arrested MS-13 members. However, the Marshal’s website has a round up of fugitives arrested by each of the regional task forces. The site notes Josue Antonio Caceres was arrested in Brentwood, MD on August 16, which was during the time frame of this operation. Interestingly, I was unable to locate the two others noted in the press release in the Marshal's arrest roundup. Maybe they were arrested towards the end of the operation and haven’t appeared in the arrest roundup.
