Summary:
The small college town of Chapel Hill, North Carolina has become home to some who claim membership in MS-13, though authorities claim the problem is still relatively small. To preempt any major gang growth, the Chapel Hill police department is training one police officer per shift to analyze gang related activity. Authorities cite Chapel Hill’s nightclubs, Apple Chill and “After Chill” festivals, and the Halloween Street Party, as epicenters of gang crime in recent years. They also cite Durham, Charlotte and Greensboro as contributors of gang members and gang crime during these events.
