Los Zetas
Captured Zetas On Mexican News
Approximate Date of Newscast : March 2007
Analysis:
This video appeared on a Mexican news broadcast, so it is in Spanish. It appears to be of two Zetas that were captured by a rival gang. As is widely reported, the Zetas are known to work for the Gulf Cartel, a big Mexican drug smuggling syndicate. There have also been reports of MS-13 members working for the Gulf Cartel, which is why msthirteen.com covers this periodically. Given that the Gulf Cartel and the Sinaloa Cartel have been at war to control drug trafficking on the border for years now, these gunmen could potentially be operatives of the Sinaloa Cartel. The detained men are being interrogated, and explaining that they operated in the state of Veracruz, and detail the police officers who work for the Zetas and other details about how their organization operates.
Msthirteen.com had a native Mexican speaker review this video, and the assessment of our reviewer was that the gunmen holding the hostages were not Mexican. This assessment was based on their accent. Though the exact origin of the accent was unknown, our reviewer thought the accent could be Columbian. It would be quite a revelation to confirm that Columbian gunmen were now working for the Sinaloa cartel. Although it’s not shown on this video clip, probably because it is from a television broadcast, the detained men are executed later.
