FBI Stations 2 Agents in El Salvador to Assist Authorities

At Recent Gang Conference, FBI Announces They Plan to Station Agents in El Salvador to Assist Authorities
World Net Daily : Jerome Corsi : April 26th 2007

Summary:
At a recent gang enforcement conference, the FBI announced it is stationing two agents in El Salvador to assist that nation’s police commissioner. The announcement was made by Brian Truchon, head of the FBI’s MS-13 Task Force. The conference was sponsored by the Policia National Civil, the national police of El Salvador, and was co-sponsored by the FBI’s MS-13 Task Force. The purpose of the conference was to increase coordination between the many international law enforcement agencies that are fighting the growth of gangs.
Some interesting enforcement concepts discussed were to have the Mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa, come to San Salvador and meet with President Saca, to discuss the gang problem. Additionally, in the future the Los Angeles Police Department could run an exchange program with the Salvadorian police to exchange skills and training of gang enforcement.

Analysis:
This publication has long highlighted the international nature of this gang and advocated a US strategy to assist Central American governments in combating the gang epidemic. This is particularly true when it comes to Central American prisons, which in some cases are run by the gangs. Hopefully, these two agents will do more than just assist in investigations. Advisors, instructors, and additional resources are badly needed within the criminal analysis, and prison systems of El Salvador, if the gang epidemic is ever to be brought under control.
